When Jacqui’s parents heard her voice demo it was rumoured the first thing they said was “oh dear, our darling girl is all grown up”. But that was bound to happen with a voice that has so much energy and delivers so much acting in every bite. You can actually hear the girl she once was and the young woman she is heading towards. That’s good news for advertisers who are looking for a female voice but then fall into the mistake of hiring an experienced actress only to tell her to “young it up”. Jacqui can rightfully claim that voice territory of buying her first car, moving out of home, broken first romances, taking her washing to her parents’ house and those late night stilted conversations by the fridge between father and daughter. Jacqui has had loads of on-camera work – and that’s in her favour too. Her voice has benefited from “selling” and “instructing” the viewer in what she’s seeing. She hasn’t taken for granted that the pictures will do it all – she still performs and throws herself into the part. If you’re choosing a female voice, now you don’t have to settle for one or the other, the really young or the older. Jacqui sits in the b’tween of the voice market.
Actor Bio
Making her on screen debut to Australian audiences as ‘Eco’, on the popular children’s television program, ‘The Shak’, amassing a total of 460 episodes for the Nine Network, Jacqui has had a steady flow of on-screen credits including ‘Old School’ ABC Australia/NBC, ‘Home & Away’ Seven Network and ‘Underbelly’ Nine Network. She will be seen on the big screen later this year in the role of Kelly for the Screen Australia comedy, ‘A Savage Christmas’ (featuring Rachel Griffiths and Helen Thomson).
Jacqui has a great passion for live comedy and theatre. In the past 14 months, Jacqui has performed on stage in Sydney at the Factory Theatre, Sydney Comedy Store, Giant Dwarf, KXT and Improv Theatre Sydney, as well as the UCB and Groundlings mainstages in Los Angeles. In 2022, she was awarded BEST SCRIPT (Jacqui Duncan, David Allsopp) and BEST ACTOR (Jacqui Duncan, David Allsopp) for the 2022 Short and Sweet Sydney competition for the play, ‘Buried Treasure’. Most recently, she appeared at the Factory Theatre in the run of feminist sketch comedy show, ‘Tough Titties’, showcasing her impressive comedic range in a multitude of characters (an Italian Mobster Vagina, an Eastern Suburbs mother-of-the-groom and an Essex Love Island contestant to name a few).
She began improvising and creating characters when she began her training at UCB (The Upright Citizen’s Brigade) in 2014, gaining selection for Advanced Studies. In 2017 she completed the core program at ITS (Improv Theatre Sydney) and has appeared on stage in the house teams, ‘Flight Mode’ and ‘Tentacle’. Jacqui also advanced through the core track at the infamous Groundlings improv and sketch comedy school in 2021 and last year flew LA to complete the ‘Writer’s Lab’ level. Upon completion, she was one of only a handful of students selected for their final level, ‘Advanced Lab’ (which she is hoping to attend later this year). *Advanced Lab students/alumni include Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Chloe Fineman and Will Ferrell.
With her years of experience in the industry, she also ventured into the world of stand-up and making it to the Semi-finals of the 2018 RAW Comedy Competition at her first appearance. She has since developed her stand-up writing into what has been described as a “hilariously dry dig at society… and herself”.
Along with her stage and on camera appearances, Jacqui is a successful voice artist in the commercial space (voicing national campaigns for brands such as McDonalds, Pepsi and Sunsilk) and has several animated credits to her name. These include, ‘Bernie Sand Wars’, ‘Other Fish’, ‘The Eggsperts’ and the ABC Kid’s series’, ‘Giggle & Hoot’, ‘FriendZSpace’ and supporting lead in ‘Professor Eggcups Extraordinary Experiments’.
