Bio

Jeffrey Liu is a magnetic multi-disciplinary performing artist. WAAPA-trained, he champions the queer Chinese-Australian experience through his pop artist project JËVA, bringing a bold and charismatic presence to both stage and studio. Since releasing his debut pop EP Typhoon in 2021, JËVA has independently amassed over 100,000 Spotify streams, sold out a headline show at The Vanguard Sydney, and performed to thousands at Mardi Gras Fair Day 2022 and World Pride 2023, garnering support on air from Triple J and BBC Radio 1. Jeffrey was scouted for his acting debut as Kim Han (a K-Pop star) in Ra Chapman’s K-Box (Malthouse Theatre), earning praise for a breakout performance that launched his stage career. He went on to appear in The Lucky Country (Hayes Theatre Co) before touring nationally with Michelle Law’s Miss Peony (Belvoir St Theatre). Alongside his theatre work, Jeffrey is an established voiceover artist, having lent his voice to national commercial campaigns. He will return to The Lucky Country in 2025 for the national tour whilst working on his forthcoming EP Teenage 20’s due for release early next year.

Liu’s flamboyant performance is a lot of fun
Giselle Au-Nhien Nguyen – The Guardian
The performances here are absolutely spot on; a four-person cast that expertly dance around each other with conviction and a deep understanding of their characters
Bianca O’Neill – Time Out
The four-person cast is difficult to fault, all bringing their own talents to their respective characters. Jeffrey Liu is not so much the comedic relief character in the play, instead acting as the sole source of pure joy in the play, featuring his singing chops in some fabulously bombastic K-Pop numbers
James Robertson – BEAT
The four actors deliver strong performances, with newcomers Qian and Liu more than capable of keeping up with the incredible Maude Davey and Syd Brisbane
Myron My – My Melbourne Arts
It wasn’t long before Liu impressed audiences with his stage presence, and his excellent vocal runs with renditions of BTS’ ‘Fake Love’ and Rain’s ‘Love Song’. I almost forgot I was at a play and thought I really was at a K-Pop concert for a moment.
Stephanie Chin – Lilthia Reviews
Liu is charismatic, too – nailing the pop intervention with the energy of a bottled genie released and suffusing the role with insistent melancholy thereafter
Brenton Harris, Cameron Woodhead, Andrew Fuhrmann – The Age
