You’ve heard of being an International Man of Mystery – yes? Well, I consider myself an International Man of Voice Overs. And being that as it may, the time of day one records makes a big difference in staying consistent when inevitable changes occur.
For instance, when I record for clients in the UK or the Netherlands, I usually record first thing in the morning, my time, around 7am. After a decent night’s sleep, my voice is always deeper more resonant. When I record later in the evening, for clients on the Pacific Rim including China or Australia, which would be 7 or 8pm my time if not later, my voice is warmed up after a full day of recording and much more relaxed.
So, when a client has a change or addition to a script I’ve previously recorded, I try and do that re-record or change at approximately the same time of day that I recorded the original, in order to keep the same tonal quality of my voice and allow for a better voice match.
