IT’S a case of double-take television. The transformation into one of Australia’s most notorious families was a meticulous one for the cast of Schapelle – Channel 9’s upcoming telemovie that tells the story of Schapelle Corby’s ill-fated Bali drug run.
Jacinta Stapleton’s transformation into Mercedes Corby was also a big departure for the actor known for her three-year run on Neighbours from 1997 to 2000.
As the famously feisty sibling, Stapleton had an early dilemma over whether or not to wear fake teeth, with concerns they could look “too false”.
“We didn’t want it to look like a caricature … or to be too distracting,” Stapleton says.
“And it was weird to get them right because Mercedes wears dentures herself and has about three different sets. But we had this guy who made a pair and as soon as I put them in I looked in the mirror and there was this character.
“They were actually perfect.”
