There are 2 reasons why we use a particular voice for a project.
The first is because we’ve written something, we know it’s brand sound, we choose a voice and it sits well with the client’s wishes or other production elements. Job done.
The other reason is beyond our control.
Sometimes the world tells us to use a voice because that’s what’s needed to capture a cultural moment. That’s why Somerset Arnold’s voice is so important right now. A young woman’s voice needs to be heard and her experiences both good and bad, need to be aired beyond the school hallways and neighbourhood parties.
Somerset has been well schooled within a family of performers so the studio, her own or others, aren’t foreign to her. She can easily be the sweet natured daughter that advertising and narration demands of girls. Or if your audio project has picked up this wind of change of women speaking their minds and changing others, then Somerset is the young woman to use.
Somerset hasn’t quite left her teenage years behind her. She can deliver a glass and a half of teenage angst, be the Queen of technology and deliver a sympathetic but still sarcastic bird flipping instruction manual on life to anyone who cares to listen. Her brand knowledge is immense. That matters because to honestly deliver a shopping list of what’s in and what’s out, you’ve got to be living that experience in the shopping malls and browsing the online delivery brands that drop on your door step every day.
To this point Somerset’s demo shows her experience with instructional narration, radio, tv commercials and long form real world conversational reads. She takes direction well and her mic technique and knowledge goes beyond ‘just a little bit closer to the mic’ having been brought up around audio tech heads. At this age Somerset has a good sense of hearing her own mistakes and knowing her voice enough so she can take on direction and improve quickly. In a real session situation that’s vital to the smooth running of the recording and the time the client is paying for.
At the junction of opportunity to communicate, the right reason to stand in the spotlight and the choice of how the message sounds, Somerset Arnold is ready to deliver.
