John graduated from the Acting course at NIDA in 1992. Then headed home to Brisbane and acted in many plays there including Jacques and his Master, The Millfire, Bouncers (whilst being one), Cyrano de Bergerac, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Shaughraun, Sweet Phoebe, Julius Caesar and The Misanthrope. He was awarded 2 State Theatre Awards (Matilda Awards) before heading back to Sydney in 1998. Here John performed in many more plays including, Deathwatch (self-produced), The Underpants (Company B), She Stoops to Conquer, The Way of the World, Festen, Topcoat (STC) Antony & Cleopatra, Troilus & Cressida, Twelfth Night, The War of the Roses, Romeo and Juliet (Bell Shakespeare).Recently John has performed in Storm Boy (MTC/QT) Holding Achilles (Legs on the Wall/DPS) and Peter and the Starcatcher (DPS). John’s Film and Television profile includes: ‘Sea Patrol’ for 5 years where he played the Chief petty Officer “Charge”. The show was sold to over 170 countries. He also starred in many films including The Tenderhook, Inspector Gadget 2, Man Thing, Chasing Comets and the AACTA Award winning Red Dog. He has also been in Underbelly: Razor, Home & Away, Wonderland, All Saints, Stingers and Water Rats.
John’s Voice Over career started back in Brisbane with jobs like Gold Lotto and many locally produced Documentaries. On returning to Sydney, he jumped straight into commercial and radio work whilst also voicing the ABC documentary series A Big Country: Revisited. John has had many notable long- term clients over his 30+ year career like the A&E channel on Foxtel, Westrac, Whiskas, McCain, Toyota Used Cars, Subaru and Ladbrokes to name a few. John’s warm voice has been a reassuring one for clients, but his actor training has also given him the ability to change and adapt his voice for many clients as well allowing him to move into and out of character with ease.
